Which savings account to put £30,000?

Where should a 77 year old pensioner put £30,000, preferably with instant access?

At present it is languishing in a Marcus savings account earning 1.8% interest.

Al Rayan @ 2.35% is currently top.
  • do you really need instant access to £30,000?

    Do you need for example
    instant access to £10,000
    180 day access to £10,000
    1yr access to £10,000

    Just a thought

    You could look at:

    • Cynergy 2.12%
    • Atom 1.88%
    • Tandem 1.85%
    • Zopa Smart Saver: primary 1.83% & Boosted Pots: 7days notice 1.88%, 31day days notice 2.03%, 95days notice 2.22%
With interest rates increasing on a regular basis at the moment easy access gives you the flexibility to react quicker when % numbers grab your attention

My wife is convinced that if I squirrel it away somewhere she won't be able to find it if I go first.

I have a spreadsheet (and a letter with how to access said spreadsheet, other documents etc that 2 people will have separate access to if anything happens) with bank details, rough amounts, account numbers and sort codes. This is updated whenever the circumstances change in it.

I'm holding a lot less than £30k in cash currently (meaning in bank accounts), but this works well for any number of accounts.

If you want easy access, look at the easy access thread - link in my signature takes you to the Top Easy Access accounts.

Find 5.12% for £5k with hoops, 2.5% for £5k and 2.00% for balance over etc.

Ask questions there, they're a helpful bunch.
    Have a good time.

Why not keep an  updated list of your accounts and give her a copy?

    Hardly languishing at that rate...

Nationwide 1 Year Triple Access Online Saver 15 at 2.1% (online) or Yorkshire Rainy Day Account 2% (branch based)
