EonNext/Sainsbury Energy cheap rate times

I asked them what the times are & they came back with this:  'Your lower rate times are 0000-0030, 0230-0730, 2230-2400. This will be set at GMT not BST.'   Nothing as simple as 11-7 or 12-8 & what on earth is the weird gap between 12:30am & 2:30am when it goes to normal rate for two hours?

  • Well, they’ve made it sound harder than it needs to be - those times are 10:30pm to 12:30am then 2:30am to 7:30am.

if you had 11-7 or 12-8, that wouldn’t be seven hours of course, but I take your point about that gap.

I don’t think the rules say which hours have to be cheap, or how many blocks it can be in, just that there needs to be seven hours total.

Isn’t it more useful to have a bit before 11pm (before people sleep) and a bit after 7am (when people have woken up)? Or do you have heaters that struggle with the two parts?

Yes, that does make sense.  I can see their reasoning.  Just got to make sure I use GMT & not BST on the appliance delay timer settings.  Thanks.
  • Hi,
but during the normal rate for two hours your heaters wont be charging.

If you want to make sure about it, you can often hear a ‘clunk’ from your meter when the cheap rate starts and ends.  The clock in a lot of E7 meters drifts over time (if you don’t have a smart meter) so you might find it a good idea to check the times for yourself because they could be a long way away from what was set.
