As an update, I swapped a 6ft tube in my kitchen, marked as F70W/LL/840, with this, which should be the same colour temp although lower lumens based on specs. In realty, its a very good match, the LED is a little brighter, but I think florescent tubes deteriorate over time, same colour, instant start. Literally a 2 minute job, very pleased and now using 24W instead of 70

Smashing thanks @littleboo - glad to know that the lower lumens isn't significant in actual lighting levels.

I might have to have a go at this myself in the end - I'm not getting much response from local electricians.   Any that bother to say "no job too small" in their marketing invariably aren't in the slightest bit interested in a little job when they see it.

I've seen some LED light fittings that can change lighting level from the switch [and some even colour] and that would suit me ideally - so would be worth changing to - if I can find a willing sparkie.

I'll check out the link properly, as I need a 5' warm white.  Plus I need to see if I could reach with my new steps - it's going to be tight, as I can't get directly underneath it - my arms are likely to be too short.

if you did this "properly" in 2 mins then well done, but I am guessing you just changed the tube. thats really only half of the job. disconnecting the control gear will make that tube last much longer and work more efficiently
