Cancelling The Times Subscription - Hope this helps!

Seen many people on here and on other sites mentioning what a nightmare it is to cancel The Times subscription after taking out a trial.

I actually managed to cancel easily (once logged in) by going here:

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/account/cancel

Then scroll to the bottom and click “I’d like to cancel my subscription”

You then get a couple of pages trying to get you to stay but after that it’s all cancelled and you receive a confirmation.

No need to phone.

Worked for me and hopefully will help others too 👍

  • It’s always been easy to cancel.
Certain people on here just have a habit of making life needlessly hard for themselves.

It's not easy and they don't even claim it's easy. I emailed them a few weeks ago, they replied saying some people were able to cancel online and to try, but that didn't work for me as it produces an error and I had to phone them. I commented I had found the process difficult and they replied politely that they just wanted to ensure that I had been made aware of a special offer that I could take advantage of.
  • Just to add to this, there appears to be no way to cancel online. The link above only has a phone cancel option. They want to make it hard so you get suckered into paying full price or try and haggle with a telesales person

Also, they +did+ have an option to subscribe with Google until recently.  I took out a £1 for 4 months option . Via Google it was easy to cancel.  Then last month, I noted that they cancelled my Google with 1 month left to run! I got a resubscribe offer but quelle surprise, not via Google - card details and option to cancel via phone only
  • The link that @Revex has shared doesn't work any more. I just phoned the number and it was fine. The call including the "press this..." bit was 3 mins. The guy said there is no way to cancel online at the moment, but there will be from next Easter (2026).
  • There is still no way to cancel a digital subscription online which seems completely crazy. I searched and searched through my account and thought I was going mad. I tried to call yesterday, but had missed the Sunday hours. I whatsapped, but it was still Sunday hours and they said I had to call. Called today, and as my subscription is the 14th, I still have to pay another month. When I called they couldn't find my subscription through my postcode, (I had said it was digital, not print), I then had to log in and find my customer number, they couldn't search via my e mail. It seems like an antiquated service that is only designed to make them money, I don't even remember signing up for it and have been paying for a year and a half without really realising, (I know that's on me, but it's easy to do). It's verging on fraud to me and against debt management best practice to not be able to cancel online. As it was set up on apple pay / wallet, I have no control to cancel a direct debit myself either. Really frustrating, I asked to speak to a manager to complain that I had to pay another month and was told I couldn't and there was nothing I could do. Shameful.
