Scottish Power - Single Fuel Customer - Somewhat (apparently) higher new rates?

We live in a rural part of Cheshire and have no mains gas supply, therefore we have to use oil for heating.

Our two year electricity contract is ending on 31st of October and has been good value for the last several months. From 1st November we are to be placed on a standard tariff which will cost 35.98 pence / kwh and a standing charge of 48.59 pence / day.

We have been unable to contact Scottish Power as only their chat seems active and simply returns irrelevant bot messages with no human available to reply. Is it the case that we should have to pay more than the bulk of the figures in this board because we are only able to be a single fuel customer?

Anyone advise?
