I submitted my meter readings on 1st October, which generated an updated online bill from Octopus.
The bill showed the new gas kWh tariff as 14.76p and the new electricity kWh tariff as 51.58p (inclusive of 5% VAT)

This is substantially different from the tariff Octopus told me it would be (by email 18th Sept) - gas 10.334p and electricity 33.727p
The MSE site shows tariffs wef 1st October for South Western region of - Gas 10.43p and electricity 33.86p

Anyone know why the Octopus tariff is significantly higher?

Comments

  • Because you triggered a bill before they had updated their rates.

Thanks Sparky. You'd have thought they'd had enough time to get their new tariffs ready for 1st October?
  • A lot of suppliers were struggling, and it seems that those using the Kraken billing system (designed by Octopus but also used by E.ON / Sainsburys at least) were struggling more than others.

Although I thought that a meter reading on 1 Oct was assumed by Octopus to be taken at 00:00 on 1 Oct and therefore wouldn’t include any consumption at October rates, whether the correct or the incorrect ones.
