By paying quarterly, what payment method are you using?.
Completely uncertain about it but I'd assume that it'd be credited quarterly as your billed quarterly, unless BG website states diffrently.

Pertinent part for you OP:The Energy Bills Support Scheme (£400 discount) will also be applied as a monthly or quarterly discount to your bill.

Depending on when your bill is next due will depend on how much discount shows on it. You will get £66 credited to your account in Oct & Nov & £67 credited to your account in Dec through to March. I obviously don’t know what date this will be credited but I believe it should be within the first 2 weeks but I could be wrong.
When you get your next bill it should show as credits on there and you will just pay the difference.
Everyone is going to get it automatically so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. There’s a lot of people on here who seem to be panicking because it’s the 4th October & there’s nothing showing on their account yet. Not sure why they think they’re going to miss out but no one will.

I reread the EDF email and it suggests that the £400 is only applicable to variable tariffs

"The £400 discount is in addition to the Government Energy Price Guarantee. If you’re on a variable tariff, we’ll write to you again before the end of September and explain what this means for you."

If that’s what EdF think (and I don’t think they do, but I can see how that quote is odd), then they would be incorrect.

Never easy to interpret from a small snippet of a larger e-mail, but I would just pay attention to the fullstop between those sentences.
"The £400 discount is in addition to the Government Energy Price Guarantee." - so you get both.
If you’re on a variable tariff, we’ll write to you again before the end of September and explain what this means for you." - this bit only applies to those on a variable tariff, it says nothing to imply that there is a link to the £400.
