Is this energy quote good & a couple other questions?

Hi I bought my first house 30th September. Any idea if this is cheap for energy? It’s who previous owners used:

Variable tarriff - including VAT unit rate per kilowatt per hour £0.3224 for electricity. Standing rate 0.49993 pence per day.

Gas unit rate 0.1020 pence (believe rate per kilowatt per hour) . Standing charge 0.2848 pence per day.

I’m no expert but I believe since I’ve just bought my first house on 30th, I won’t be able to get fixed tariff. Also I took the metre readings on 2nd October even though I moved in 30th September - does that matter? Lastly do you know which energy providers are open to new customers so I can compare my above quote with other providers?

There is only the variable tariff now with all suppliers.

I believe Octopus will take on new customers, but only if you ring them up. They discount the standing charge by a small amount, so should work out very marginally cheaper, and you might be able to get a switching incentive if you can find another Octopus customer to refer you.

With regards to the meter readings, just let the supplier know what date the meter readings were taken, they can then estimate what the readings were on 30th September (or use them to corroborate the previous owner's final readings if provided).

There are some fixed tariffs available, but aren't widely advertised, often limited to existing customers only, and, with the exception of the Octopus Go EV tariff, aren't particularly competetive.

It looks like they are charging you  the government rates  for gas  which are 10.3 with a standing charge of 28p. For electric the government states 34p and 46p standing charge.

Utility warehouse are taking on customers and have a £100 off the bill for anyone that takes 2 services.

Thanks. Utility warehouse’s quote is similar but the £100 off part is attractive. The problem is I’d have to take out a second service (I have great broadband and mobile so don’t need to change that), meaning the second service would be boiler cover but I was tempted to not bother with this so I’d have to pay more ie for an extra service in order to benefit from the £100 discount

Thanks. Re the metre readings - Problem is the previous owners were a fam of 4 and I’ll just living in the house by myself so I’d use less internet. Even though I have keys I’m not moved in yet so my gas/electric usage since Friday 30th September when I completed will be super slow. So their estimate will likely be based on previous owners usage which would be much higher than mine? Could I say I took the readings on the 30th?

before you do that i'd do a quick search for UW on the forum and see that lots of people would't recommend them (worse than most)

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I get the stigma as it’s a pyramid scheme but if the deal is good then I don’t see what’s wrong with UW?

It being a pyramid scheme should be reason enough to steer clear?

Also, the customer service is diabolical.
