British Gas - SVR Tariffs
Hi - I just moved house and have been told I have to go onto what was 'Evolve', which I believe is an online only account, meaning I can't speak to anyone over the phone as they can't access these accounts (great start)
I have both Gas & Electric and and set up a DD with them (2nd time of asking). The current tariff charges from 1st Oct are as follows:
Electric Usage 35.98/kwh and standing charge 48.6/day
Gas Usage 10.34/kwh and standing change 28.48/day
From looking at MSE (and I am happy to be told i'm wrong), for typical property in North West, duel fuel, paying by DD the following caps apply (which are in the main lower than my SVR tariff I am on from British Gas currently) i.e
Electric Usage 33.48/kwh and standing charge 43.26/day
Gas Usage 10.33/kwh and standing change 28.49/day
Any idea why I am being charged more 3 out of the 4 - Find chatting to British Gas a real pain so before I do it, I just wanted to harvest opinion - should I challenge what they are charging me or will I be wasting my time?
Thanks in advance...

Hi - not as confused as I have been!
I am with British Gas - but in part of their business that used to be called Evolve. Think they changed the name back to British Gas as no one took to the name.
It appears to be an online only account i.e I can only use chat and am to manage my account online e.g. amend my dd each month online based on usage etc.. I log in via British Gas website and it's labelled BG.

Hi,deleted previous question when I found this, seems Evolve is gone, read HERE.0

Are you sure you're not in the North Wales & Mersey area? The rates you have quoted look like the EPG cap for that area and match those shown on MSE.1

“In the North West” and “In the North West Electricity Distribution License Area” are not the same thing.
The prices are based on the second of those things.
You need to look at your bill and find the electricity MPAN. The 9th and 10th digits show your licence area.
North West is ‘16’ , North Wales and Merseyside is ‘13’.
Or if you remember the old electricity boards, North West is NORWEB and North Wales/Merseyside is MANWEB.

Hi - I had based my figures on being in the North West - however you are quite right, after I have just checked https://www.energybrokers.co.uk/electricity/pes-areas/search - it appears despite not living in North Wales or Merseyside (Chester) we do come under that area.
Problem solved - thanks mnewtonuk0
