Cashback at checkout?

Do any supermarkets still do cashback at the checkouts (withdrawing money whilst paying for your shopping, not the cashback money saving sites)? I can't seem to find up to date info on which shops do or don't do this now.

I’m sure I saw someone in a Lidl get cash back last week.1

Most of them still do. Assuming you're paying by debit card, of course, not credit card. Round here Aldi, Lidl and Tesco certainly do, I'd be surprised if most of the other major chains didn't.

Sainsbury's still do AFAIK. Been over a week since I got some cash from them - so little use for it these days!

Must vary by area as my local Tesco don't do Cashback anymore. Was told it was because they have a machine in the car park.

Thanks everyone. For some reason I thought they'd stopped it a couple of years ago.

What is cash?! Since the pandemic I have paid for virtually everything by credit card. I am still trying to find a loo that used to be 1p , that accepts credit cards !!!!
Thank you for reading this message.3 -
In some shops you can now get cashback without making a purchase.

It was introduced as part of measures to address the decline in the number of free to use ATMs.
There are a couple of other initiatives underway to enable more retailers to provide cashback for the same reason. It might become a more common way of accessing cash, if the number of bank branches and ATMs continue to decline,1 -
Our local Aldi do but you need to physically use your card. They won't do it using google wallet or similar pay.2
