New smart meter user - British Gas app not showing usage data and Bright app onlys shows electric

New smart meter installed 2 weeks ago. The IHD / monitor is working, although the gas tariff is still not showing the 1st Oct price increase, The British Gas app isnt showing any usage data, which I think isnt just me and their usage app data hasnt worked for a while. The Bright app works but it isnt showing any gas usage. 

I thought any software issues would have been sorted by now, but seems not.

Anyone else having similar issues?

  • The fitting of smart meters does mean that they are set up immediately on the supplier’s systems. The set up of gas can take a few weeks. To ‘pull’ data, the supplier has to be the designated supplier on the National Database and it has to send out bespoke security certificates to each meter. These certificates are part of the GCHQ- level layered security.

    The British Gas App has not showed Gas Usage for months. I raised a ticket with them in August and have recently sent a formal letter of complaint to thier complaints team (old school sometimes works). If I hear nothing after that I will go to Ofgem.

    I think that you mean Energy Ombudsman Services: Ofgem does not deal with consumer complaints. EOS is a private arbitration company that makes its judgement on the evidence that you are the supplier provide.

    The problem with a smart meter-related complaint is that there are known industry-wide technical issues: for example, with some WNC1 comms hubs. Comms hubs are a DCC responsibility but the DCC is not a consumer facing organisation. WNC will be responsible for all firmware updates. 

    Meter manufacturers also produce firmware updates for the meters that they produce. It took one meter manufacturer 7 months last year to resolve a meter data issue. The meter was returning index readings when a data pull was requested by the supplier but an empty XML file (this contains the 30 minute usage data).

    In sum, the supplier may be responsible for your smart meters but all it can do is ‘lean’ on other parties when things are not working as they should. Life would have been a lot simpler had the Government gone for the French Nespresso solution: a single design of smart meter (LINKY) built by selected manufacturers with powerline data transmission to regional hubs.

    My Smets1 electric meter started working about 3 weeks ago, I checked it was actually connected on the Citizens advice meter check page and it said it was, there is no usage date for it on the BG app or website, there is usage data for my non smart gas meter though.  My electricity price hasn't been updated yet from 1st October on my smart meter.
