 Hiya lovelies!
I think I may have discovered a disadvantage to being MSE...
I ordered some stuff for Christmas presents from two online retailers and paid using my debit card from my bank account like a good little DFW-er.
I was all puffed up proud pigeon about not putting it on a card, but a bit anxious about when the money would come out - although they said there was a couple of days delay on some bits so I was pretty sure the money would go out after one of our pay days.
But then I've been so busy with my 17 jobs  that I stopped checking my balance daily.
Now it's been 2 weeks and they haven't taken the money yet!
Customer services don't sem to work weekends so I rang them just now and they tell me that my bank stopped payment almost two weeks ago - but nobody bothered to let me know.
My banks explanation?
"Well you don't usually spend much money so an £85 transaction over the internet set off the alarms."
Flippin' 'mare!
So today I'm working two jobs, doing a mystery shop at lunch - and posting eBay, packing more eBay tonight when I get home at 1am...
and inbetween all that making lots and lots of calls trying to sort this out.
!!!!!!.
Gah!
Oh well I s'pose if they can't deliver by Christmas and I have to cancel the purchases that'll be really MSE won't it?

That's bizarre - but I guess it's better than somebody else taking £85 off you!
I must admit, if I'm Chrimbo shopping away from home (i.e. Manchester / liverpool / trafford centre etc) and spend over the bank's limit, the next shop will get a message to verify my identity by phone call before the transaction can go through.
You'd think they'd call you though....0 -

It seems to me the BANKS are providing a really poor sevice ! If you miss a payment to them ,they will bombard you with letters and phone calls and charge you £30 each time. I have to wat 7 days for them to clear a cheque on my account !0

Whilst I know this is annoying, I have been on the other side of this. The bank saved me £795 because someone had got our details (still don't know to this day how), and tried to buy $1500 of computer stuff in the US. They declcined the transaction - and then contacted us.
I suppose that is the annoying thing is that they didn't contact you to query the purchases.

I know its good your banks looking out for you but surely it doesn't hurt to phone to inform you, after all if someone had your card or its details then surely they could have kept doing it in the past two weeks and you would have been none the wiser. £85 is hardly a big spend, my bank has queried me over an internet payment but that was for something that was £400. You've got enough stress what with Christmas never mind any more to add to it.xx:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

Oh dear, all my internet purchases have gone through no problem. Does that mean I havent changed my ways? xx0

They should have contacted you before stopping the payments totally!
I had this a couple of years back when I was prevented from buying stuff and getting cash back at the supermarket. Would have been OK if the supervisor had been less stroppy and accusative. She knew me well enough but seemed convinced I was OD when the problem was "abnormal transactions" two weeks before Christmas. Like I am buying DVDs and teenage stuff.
When my card was stolen abroad and I arranged a stop within about 10 minutes, they let the b**gers fill up on petrol for days. The explanation was that there were stops and STOPS. The latter cost money, so they only did it once they had evidence of fraud. Despite my telling them when I reported the card stolen that any transaction outside the UK was fraudulent, they took 10 days to contact me in writing. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
