Calor gas or oil filled radiator
Asking for a elderly neighbour who sometimes needs extra warmth
they have old fashioned storage heaters as I do , and they work well
however sometimes my neighbour is up later in the evening and they run out of heat so need a additional heat Source on a few occasions
she’s looking at a oil filled radiator or a portable calor gas heater
Which in your opinion is the more cost effective option
thank you in advance

Healthwise the oilfilled.
Os a heated throw a better option?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Calor gas is instant heat but produces moisture and in a small enclosed room a build up of co2.
Oil radiator takes longer to heat a room but saferEx forum ambassador

LPG (Calor, Flogas etc.) in the small bottles used with cabinet heaters is currently more expensive than mains electricity. The oil filled radiator will be cheaper to use.EDIT: this might not be true for daytime electricity on an E7 tariff. However all the other factors of safety and convenience still favour the electric heater.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. I used to find in that situation a small low power fan heater blowing the heat at you. Then you don't need to wait for the oil filled radiator to heat the whole room.0

As above, consider a plug in electric throw 1st as they are cheap to buy, effective and very low cost to run.
But if not, as others have posted, I would also advise her to stay well away from a bottled gas heater:- It will put a litre of water vapour into the room for every litre of liquid gas burned, so can cause condensation problems.
- It will be heavy to wheel about and to load/unload the cylinders unless someone can help her.
- It will take up more space than an oil filled electric heater.
- Depending on the design, it could pose a fire risk due to the exposed flame. (Flameless catalyst versions are available that are safer, but at a much higher cost).
- Unless there is one available for free, the initial investment cost for the unit and bottle rental will be a lot more than an oil filled heater.
