Final energy bill super high

We moved house on 12 September, and today I got the final bill from Bulb for our previous home, for the period of 1 September to 23 September (end of tenancy date).

Our normal use is typically somewhere between £115-£160 for a full month, so I was expecting the final bill to be roughly half that + debit. Instead, Bulb is claiming we owe £304.15 for less than two weeks' energy - the bulk of it in electricity.

This doesn't include the existing debit balance, so together with that, the grand total for the final bill comes to well over £440.

I checked the bill, and the price per kWh and standing charge are the same as in our August bill, which was for £114 for a full month.

Unless the end of tenancy cleaner was mining bitcoin in my absence, I'm struggling to understand how this is possible.

Any ideas or advice? Thank you!

Had you been sending in regular meter readings and checking that previous bills were based on those readings. It's often the case that previous bills have been estimated for several months or more and when the meter finally gets read, then there's a big catch-up.

You need to check whether there is an E=Estimate, A=Actual, C=Customer or even D=deemed next to the meter readings on previous bills and even on the readings for the final bill. Even if you had a smart meter its still worthwhile checking that the bills do actually reflect the meter readings.

Did you send final meter readings to Bulb on 12th or 23rd?

Do the units used on the bill agree with your readings?

You have given a typical payment but you haven't given us your actual use.  What were your actual meter readings between those dates (not estimates)?
