Will my DD be reduced by government Grant?

I'm with Shell energy and I just want to confirm how they will be giving me the government Grant.

My direct debit is currently set at £96/month. Does that mean they will take £66 less from my account this month ie. £30.

Or does it mean they will still take £96 but also credit my account with £66.

Thank you for clarifying what's going to happen.

Robin

My DD was reduced to £0 but with £210 credit it will be reducing the credit by £15 per month for 6 months
Someone please tell me what money is
  • This confused me too, as the way I read it is that they just reduce how much my direct debit costs me but it wouldn't be added as credit to my bill as such. So I pay a DD of £170 but they will just charge me £66 less than that, but I know I need to pay the £170 to cover what I am using. If they only charge me £104 DD but £170 is credited to my account then that is fine and what I hope is the case?

Different suppliers are doing things differently.

I’m with Octopus. My DD was £250 but Octopus will reduce what they take from my bank to £183. £250 in total will still be credited to my energy account though.

I'm with Bulb. They took the normal monthly payment and credited the £66 to my energy account, not refunded to my bank.

I'm like Jaybee - Eon-Next has just reduced my DD by £66 but credited my account with the full amount which suits me fine.

However, rather than squandering the £66 we will be saving it in our contingency fund coz even with the price cap, next year's leccy bill will still be significantly higher than this year.

  • Strangely, EonNext have reduced my DD by £67 commencing 1st Oct with payment taken on the 5th. I was under the impression that the initial reductions are £66?
    £135 reduced to £68.

The reduction is £67 for six months. The rebate is £66 twice and £67 four times. You actually end up with £2 less credit that you otherwise would have, but it avoids them having to change every DD by £1 in December.
