why?

given that we're all on the same network and essentially using all the same gas and electricity why are tariffs and caps or whatever different in different parts of the country?

(& please don't be rude - so many people are giving snarky replies to people looking for info they've been unable to find.  it gets tedious)

A few threads further down the front page.

To summarise - it doesn’t cost the same to buy, move and sell electricity in different places in the country.

‘We’ chose a long time ago not to entirely socialise those costs.

For gas, we did make that choice (a bit) - that’s why the gas standing charge is the same everywhere.

I have what it seems is one of the lowest regional unit rates but on the high side for SC.

Personally I think this stuff should be averaged out across the customer base (is possible as on Agile the unit rate cap was same nationally and SC), never have been a fan of postcode lotteries.  Whether there is appetite for changes on this in the industry is another thing though.

We're the opposite, almost the lowest SC but one of the higher unit rates.  Annoying for high users of electricity!
