EDF Prepayment Meter

Hello, I’m new to posting in this forum but not new to viewing the discussions.

I have an odd situation and wondered if EDF have made a mistake.

I’m use a prepayment meter for electricity (I don’t have gas) for my one bedroom flat. It was there when I purchased the flat many moons ago and just kept it, I don’t get bills and at least I know where I stand but know it is more expensive.

EDF contacted me about the he October changes, but in my case they are saying that cost will reduce, sounds great but not sure if they have made a mistake,

I’m on E7 as have storage heaters and fro what I can make out, the cost of the night rate is reducing from 15p to 9p per kWh.

had anyone had a thing similar as it seems odd?

  • Sounds right to me. You have probably found that your day rate has gone up a little in exchange.

Thanks, yes the fat rate has gone up a little bit but most of my usage is night rate so thanks if you think this is correct

Those are the standard variable prepay rates offered by EdF for the South Scotland distribution licence area from today.

Thank you very much for the confirmation. I’m in the South of Scotland so that confirms it must be right.

It just seemed odd that an energy provider is actually reducing a rate at this moment in time.  It appears I’ve been lucky but feel terrible for people who are not on this rate.
  • They’ve put up the “typical” or average price, but changed the balance.  You’re obviously a heavier user at night so it’s worked out well for you.

On increasing rate should I say as suspect I’m paying more due to the prepayment meter but I’m comfortable with it as don’t get bills or muck ups with direct debits, ie changes and taking money from your accounts etc that I have read on this forum

Many people are now paying less on prepayment rather than DD. EDF have even been recommending that some customers switch to PAYG.

That’s odd as can’t see why they would want to do that, but I’m not complaining.

thanks very much for the people that have updated this posting. Greatly appreciated

I think they are now being more honest about the cost of night time electricity.  Octopus are actually paying people to use it at certain times.

Prepayment & PAYG are now EDF’s cheapest method of payment, cheaper than d/d. Possibly because the know they’ll be getting the money whereas a d/d can be cancelled
