I'm in the process of buying a 3 bed house which has single pane windows ... is there still government grants to help out?
What is the approx cost for new windows and doors?

No grants available for most - If you are on certain qualifying benefits, you might be eligible for funding from your local council. But if you have enough money to buy a house, it is highly unlikely you would meet the criteria.Be very wary of any company claiming to offer "grants" or money back under a scrapage scheme - It is just marketing BS for an overpriced product (looking at you, Anglian Windows).uPVC doors & windows, expect to pay something in the region of £5-7K for an average 3 bed semi. Get quotes from local independent installers, and avoid the likes of Zenith, Anglian, Safestyle, etc unless you really want to pay through the nose. Her courage will change the world.

There is a scheme if you are next to a very busy road but it’s only available in certain areas.

We’ve just replaced all the windows and doors in our (ground floor extended) 3 bed semi in London. It’s a 1930s house so big windows, plus we went for a decent pvc manufacturer and aluminium bifolds. It was £16k all in which included some minor building work and 2 pvc doors in addition to the bifolds.0

Plenty of houses of a similar age in the neighborhood have had uPVC doors & windows fitted, and many that should have had a lintel inserted are now showing signs of the brickwork slowly collapsing - Frames bowed at the top and cracks in the brickwork/render..

No we didn’t. Our house is pebble dashed and had double glazed pvc windows in previously, albeit very old ones.0
