Is that 25°C a room temperature? That's very high if it is but would explain the apparently high gas usage for today. As you're posting on a money-saving forum I'll mention you could dramatically reduce your bills by maintaining a lower room temperature. You may of course have a health condition that means you feel unusually cold at more typical room temperatures.

It is high because my computer is underneath it and 10 kWh of that gas was from 2 showers and boiling a couple off eggs.

And I'm still feeling cold, old age does that to you.

How did you measure the 8kWh of gas? The meter reads in 100s of cubic feet, or in cubic metres, then you have to perform a calculation (approx x11.2 in case of cubic metres) to get kWh. For 8kWh gas the meter would hardly have changed, certainly less than 1 unit.
My recently installed gas smart meter displays units (cubic meters) to 3 decimal places (e.g. currently reading 0.996).

If not using gas why not turn the gas supply off at the meter?
  • Take note. The gas volume to kWh/cost conversion shown on an IHD is invariably wrong as the gas proxy meter, located in the comms hub, which does the actual volume to kWh conversion uses a fixed calorific value.

My gas cost is always wrong by a large margin as my WNC1 comms hub, which has been installed now for 3 1/2 years, does not add the daily standing charge. The correct tariff has been sent to the GSME.

Rented house has a smart meter but not had an inhouse display, it arrived recently and noted in 24 hour period used nearly 8kwh of gas. The only appliances run by gas is the heating and hot water and the heating hasn't been switched on and only the cold tap was used. Supplier is EDF. There is no meter reading on the gas meter outside (just a blank screen) so I cannot check if it is a problem with the smart meter.
Anyone have any ideas if this is normal for a boiler or best actions?
The temperature for the water setting on the boiler must be high to use 8 kWh in a 24 hour period! Try turning down the temperature for the water to around 50 degrees and whilst doing that lower the heating one to 55 degrees and set the thermostat to 18 degrees.
Someone please tell me what money is

While that is good general advice, in this case the OP stated the heating was off, and they used no hot water.
