British Gas Calculations...

Thank you, one and all. It kinda makes sense now

It's actually a 4-bed detached house in Wiltshire, so maybe the figures are pretty good, after all.So now you are forearmed with actual kWh and standing charge calculations if you think that figure of £260 a month is above what you want to pay then energy usage reduction will help.
Gas looks good unless it's a very small house but electricity usage is a little high and this is where you could see most savings.2 -
Glad it’s starting to make sense to you. 👍1

Delighted that the proposed amount at least now makes sense to you. What I would strongly urge, going forwards, is to take meter readings every month and keep your own records - if only as a plausibility check on your bills.
Which is all that we've done here - take your actual usage, work out the cash cost and check that the DD you've been quoted is acceptable. And as you can see, within regional variations, we all came to the same ballpark figure to prove your requested DD was reasonable.
If you don't know how to do the calculations for yourself, we'll be happy to help you. I just set up a formula in a spreadsheet with the unit prices and standing charges and type in the variables each month and it gives me the anticipated cost. So once set up, it's only a few minutes a month to keep on top of it. And once you've had a fright like this, it's really worth it for peace of mind and feeling better in control.0
