OVO help please
Hi my dad was switched to OVO as part of the take over of SSE. He was always in credit with SSE and has bills to show this. since OVO took over they say that he owes £400 as he was in debt. They have not shown him the evidence for this and are threatening to switch off his gas and electricity. He is almost 82 and recently widowed. Has anyone any advice that i can pass on to him please or been in a similar situation. Many thanks

They must have evidence. They haven’t just rung up and said “give me £400”. Or if they have, send a prove it letter.
What have they actually said?0 -
I was also previously with SEE (now OVO). However things shouldn't have changed with regard to account management - its been a seamless switch. OVO simply now own SSE. SSE customers still login into the SEE portal to manage bills. Does your Dad pay with Direct Debit? If so register with the portal and look at your accounts online. All you need is an email address and your account numbers for gas and electricity (these will be on the bills you have to hand).
One thing I would say is that OVO are a lot more aggressive with regard to insisting on high Direct Debit values. I have recently challenged mine after receiving an email saying they were raising the monthly charge(s) from from £370pm to £510pm even though I am currently £1K in credit (I'm in a 3 bedroom semi). I have had them successfully reduced and will simply be making manual top ups if I drop into arrears once my credit is used up. I've told OVO that's how I'll be managing things from now on and if they don't like it I'll happily move to someone who does.
