What goes on the back of a kitchen island?

Options
I’m designing our kitchen and we are having an island with a top 2400mm x 850mm. Quartz top and sides.  The front/working side will be 4 x 600mm wide units (2 cupboards and 2 x integrated fridges). The other side will be 3 stools tucked under the 250mm overhang.  What goes on the back of the units/fridges to give a smooth finish that your knees will be facing when seated?

hope that makes sense

Often, it is a trim panel that matches the worktop, or a contrasting colour. Alternatively, a panel that matches your door/drawer fronts.
Who ever is supplying/installing the units should be able to advise and provide a suitable panel.

  • What style of kitchen?
'Country' style might suit T&G panelling, for example. You can even fit fixed full-height doors to it. Pretty much anything, really.

We have a peninsula that is 2250 x 900 and the side where the stools are is just a blank panel that matches the cupboard doors. I did add vents top and bottom as freestanding fridge and freezer are under it.

We have a wine rack in ours. Good so long as you have the depth inside to take the bottles!  :)

And you don't buy your wines in Jeroboam or larger bottles :p
Most wine racks are designed for little bottles.

Not sure sure what you mean by the back, so here's some pictures of mine  :)

I'm pretty sure the OP meant the panel that your plug sockets (and phone charging wire) is mounted in.

OP, as others have said, its usually a matching end-cover panel (the kind of thing you'd use on the side of your units), for it all to match.

However, the world is your oyster, you can use anything you want. Just whatever you think looks good

    What do you want?

Most commonly will be a board that matches the doors but some will use the same material as the worktop like:

The big dream kitchen my mother had done she decided to use brick similar to:

Some have it open for shelving, display area etc, its really up to you but just remember people's feet will be there and so dont have anything that wont stand up to the occasional kick.

Ours, if it ever happens, wont have seating and so will have a wine fridge and 3 cabinets who's front will be identical to the fridge (so will look like 4 glass fronted cabinets at first glance)
  • We have a pretty big kitchen Island, and on ours at the 'back' that you're referring to where your feet go are small cupboards. Not sure if this is possible unless you have quite a big island, but just an idea.
