Gaps in composite door

We live in an ex-council house. The back door is a composite door put on by them but it's a terrible job. It swells in the heat and is difficult to open. When it's cold there are gaps that let air in and recently we've had 3 very slim slugs come in through the gaps (I actually saw them come in). Is there a way to refit or reseal these or am I looking at the cost of a new door? We're hoping to move within the next year so I'd rather not go to the expense of replacing.
