No standing charge tariff electricity
Are there any electricity tariffs that don’t have a standing charge? We have a separate garage from our house that uses 1kw a year so we really benefit from having a no standing charge tariff. We last had one with British Gas but they removed it. I’ve done searches but can’t find out if any company still offers tariffs without a standing charge. Thanks.

Pretty sure there are none left.
Outfox the Market have just pulled theirs as it was not compliant with the new Energy Price Guarantee.0 -
Have you tried Utility Warehouse.? I think they do a no standing charge tariff but only very low users will get away with a small standing charge as they build the standing charge in the first 2 kwh s used .1847 said:Are there any electricity tariffs that don’t have a standing charge? In the good old days suppliers could make their own standing charges at various prices , some very low .
You never know, those good old days could return .I m an optimist !0 -
If you only need it for lighting I would look at a solar solution and get rid of the separate meter. You would only need a small battery for LED lighting.0

Utilita have a PAYG tariff where the standing charge is shared between the first two kWh each day. I don't think they're taking new customers at the moment but if you check with them periodically you'll find out when that changes.1847 said:Are there any electricity tariffs that don’t have a standing charge? Thanks.Other than that, you're out of luck. However your garage will probably get the £400 government energy grant, which will cover your standing charge for a couple of years at least.N. To clarify, do you mean it uses a total of 1 kWh (a single 'unit') of electricity across a whole year?1847 said:We have a separate garage from our house that uses 1kw a year so we really benefit from having a no standing charge tariff.0 -
I have a portable lamp that charges up via usb. Once charged, it doesn't require any cables. The charge seems to last a long time too.
I bought this portable lamp from Amazon.
Could this be an alternative to what you are looking for?0 -
Thanks for the responses so far. The garage has a fluorescent lights which are rarely used, power points which are also rarely used and an outside LED PIR light. As a result we use 1kw a year. The standing charge most of the bill. Without it the bill is a few pence per quarter. I will check out Utility Warehouse.0
