Car leasing vanarama

Hi all. I ordered an electric MG through vanarama last November 2021 and was initially told it would be delivered in March 2022. As part of the deal I was entitled to a free charge point. Due to the need to install an isolation switch I put off getting the charge point installed until the isolation switch was sorted. This ended up being March time and by this point I had already been contacted by vanarama to explain that my car had not been built yet and it would not be arriving in March. Understandably, I started to have second thoughts about getting the charge point fitted in case the car never arrived! However I was told by vanarama that if I did not get the charge point fitted by the end of March I would lose out on the free installation as the government had ‘pulled the grant’ (seems to be a common comment from vanarama and I’m not sure why but they are still offering free charge points). So I decided to go ahead with the charge point fitting and wait for the car. I then received communication that it would be September so although annoyed, prepared myself for a wait. In August I received the news that it would now be January and the price would be increasing from £256 per month to £332 per month! The reason being…. Yes you guessed it…. The government has pulled the grant! Apparently, according to vanarama, they have said that they would honour it for cars already ordered but only if they are delivered within 12 months of ordering which of course mine won’t be. I spoke to vanarama who told me that I can cancel but I will have to pay for the charge point (approximately £1000) as it’s ‘in the teens and conditions’. I’ve looked and can’t see anything on the paperwork I’ve read. I’m assuming it probably is if you decide to cancel under normal circumstances but for something like this? What do you think?

Talk to a Solicitor - are you entitled to some compensation considering there are broken promises.I keep reading of delivery dates being pushed back- I wonder if the original dates were actually *think of a date - any date* and simply say sorry but we have changed it when it comes to the due date.Have you made any payments yet?0

Hello. Thank you. No, no payments have been made. I’m not even holding out any hope of the car arriving in January and to be honest don’t really want to pay the increased amount. I keep being told it’s due to lock downs in China and general issues with supply but I’ve seen the cars out on the roads so somebody is obviously getting them!0

The government have indeed pulled all the grants. The fact that you see other people with the cars doesn't mean there really is a conspiracy stopping you getting yours. They may well have ordered before you or their lease company has a better deal with the manufacturer to get the first x number of cars0
