Unpleasant surprise from OVO
Got an email from OVO a few days ago saying I'm in line for a refund of a bit over £200. First reaction (naturally!) was to check it's not a scam, but it contained my account number.
"Dear **********
Just to let you know we’re processing your refund of £***.**
Puzzle was that we had changed suppliers over two years ago, but checked here and found the story of financial chaos at OVO that it could be true. However did not want to tell missus until it appeared in our bank account. Just as well I did. Today I got this message:
"Dear ********
We emailed about a refund by mistake.
Unfortunately, a technical problem meant we accidentally emailed you about a refund for the closed OVO Energy account numbered ........

The good news is you should see your refund in the bank account your Direct Debit comes out of within 10 working days – if not sooner."

We know this email wasn’t expected, and we’re really sorry for any confusion or inconvenience we caused.
For your peace of mind, this account is still closed, and there’s no refund due.
Thanks,
The OVO Energy Team"
Well, quite literally, thanks for nothing...
We're fortunate enough not to be counting on that cash to meet a big bill, but there could be hundreds having hopes boosted and dashed. Having read the mess that OVO was in, I'm glad we moved. Anybody else had these messages?

Some will have, it is an error, they happen. It did not cost anyone anything, so no harm done.0

Financial cost, certainly - but I'm thinking of the people who are struggling and suddenly get told they are getting a refund. And then not...2
