To be or not to be - on the Octopus Tracker 30/9

Following Greg's update on EPG for Trackers, it seems the choice boils down to expectations of dynamic rates being above 52p for E and 14 5p for G. If above on either, then SVT is cheaper. On the other hand, if unit rates do drop below the SVT, then Tracker will be cheaper. I am also assuming that Tracker SCs are better than SVT SCs. 

Do people agree with the above assessment?

I'm on gas Tracker V3 with an 11p/kWh cap, so I'm in a pretty good place (at least until it ends in May 2023).

I don't know exactly what the Flexible SVT SC in my region will be but I'm expecting it to be within a penny of my Tracker SC.

That's assuming it remains in place, which isn't clear to me at all.

What are you unsure about?

The tracker remains as it was but for the duration of the EPG, the dynamic unit rate will be subsidised if above the EPG up to the maximum stated subsidy, its kind of what some of us thought would be a sensible way to go.  So glad to see that was the decision made.

Yep. 

We're on July 22 with the electric cap of 55p, which essentially puts us in almost the original position that Tracker was intended for - occasionally paying above the SVT in return for getting some cheaper days.  It's a gamble, and the market obviously looks very different from when they originally brought out Tracker, but for now still worth staying on.  The difficulty will be if it consistently stays high over winter, do we hold out in the hope it drops again after winter?  I don't know.  But I am exceptionally pleased with how it's turned out.

The only thing we should have done differently was get onto Tracker v3 with the 40p cap, but I acted according to the information I had at the time, and hindsight can't change the past.

An update on this thread should be that my assessment with regard to upward movement was incorrect. Despite lack of mention of their caps in yesterday's email, they're still honouring the caps minus EPG discounts. So, a Tracker customer would never pay above a new ceiling where C=Tracker - EPG discount.

Seems like a great outcome.
