I’ve just revived a very odd email which to me doesn’t look right but when it comes to my debts I panic. I do have outstanding debt but this is being dealt with. Has anyone else received the below:

This is Calvin from the Credit Investigation Department. Hope you are doing well. I just would like to tell you that we have got a legal complaint against you from "CapitalOne Credit Card Ltd, 118 Money Payday Ltd, Dot Dot Payday Ltd, Vanquis Credit card Ltd, Safety Net Payday Limited, Lowell Financial Group Ltd, Moorcroft Financial Group Ltd " where you are not making the contractual payments and all of them are defaulted accounts as well.

So this is why these people have approached us in order to get "CCJ" action against you so that they can have the attachment of earnings of amount £689.78 every month for these accounts with your income from this month itself, so that they can cover all the money, from your side ASAP because as per the creditors they gave you enough chance to get the arrangements done But you refused to get that help and now they are looking to have legal action against you.

Contact me for further questions or if you want to sort out all of your debts and don’t want to blacklist yourself or any attachments of Earning.

Thank you.

Regards (Removed by Forum Team),
Senior Financial Advisor.

I should add the email address it was sent from is (Removed by Forum Team) and I’m not able to find anything on Google at all.

Thank you.

I think the standard of English in the email.is simply too poor for it to be genuine.

Just searched the name (Removed by Forum Team) and the 2nd entry in the list of results is the FCA website saying to protect yourself from fake FCA communications.

But for me the standard of English points to Monty Python and Spam as has been said!

It's a scam.  No way is any legitimate debt collector going to use such appalling English.

It's a scam, they will have sent out thousands (maybe millions) of identical emails in a 'scattergun' approach, some will inevitably be received by folk who are already concerned by debt. Just ignore it.

Possible scam email, it couldn't shout out SCAM any louder if it had "this is a scam" written in the title header (think Blackadder-Baldrick, this is a crisis, a large crisis etc etc).

No such thing as a "legal complaint" and the "credit investigation dept" of what ???? a definite scam email more like.

"CCJ action"? what does that even mean?

This was written by someone with a basic knowledge of the English Language and purporting to be from this secretive organisation that can stop legal action, an organisation that we would probably call a solicitor, honestly, a six-year-old could produce a better scam email than that, delete it, pure scam material.

Betty, you must know how the legal process works, there is no middleman, just you, the lender and the court system, certainly no Calvin Burner from scam company.com.

Attachment of earnings is not a fixed amount, they don`t know what you earn, it`s decided on a case-by-case basis, adhering to a set of rules decided by the Ministry of Justice, no figures would be available pre CCJ stage, and the tone and content of the grammar is just laughable, honestly, have a little giggle to yourself and delete it.

The next one will be from his Nigerian nephew, wanting to send you money through your bank account, for just a tiny little fee.............

  • Just to reiterate what everyone else has said - the appalling grammar coupled with a gmail address (no legitimate company would use gmail) shouts SPAM louder than a bunch of Vikings in a greasy-spoon cafe.

My concern would be if you actually have debts from the listed companies - CapitalOne Credit Card Ltd, 118 Money Payday Ltd, Dot Dot Payday Ltd, Vanquis Credit card Ltd, Safety Net Payday Limited, Lowell Financial Group Ltd, Moorcroft Financial Group Ltd

If you do, how does a scammer know?  They may be guessing or you may have been hacked.  I don't believe the email is at all legit (as others have already posted)

You could of course double check a credit report in case you think they might know something you don't.  But - yes, a scam.
