Scottish Power increased energy price
Hi.
I recently added my meter reading for September, used less energy than August but my bill has increased. Upon investigating I can see they have calculated my usage with the energy price increase due in October. I use the Scottish power app. To upload meter readings.
Anyone else had this issue?

Your bill hasn't increased, I assume you mean SP are going to increase your DD?Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I assume the OP means that the amount that SP have charged them (i.e. on the statement they send every time you update readings) for Sept is higher than for Aug even though they used fewer actual units? Have you used the differences between the last 2 readings and done your own sums to determine that they've used Oct rates? Obviously that looks wrong if you have been charged new unit rates and standing charges already - can only recommend that you brave the long queues and ring them to discuss.
I am with SP but submit readings online through my account rather than through their app. Not had any issues with the Sept readings I sent them but haven't dug into it as it's pretty much the amount I expected it would cost (I've come off a fix since last meter readings so did my own calculations and they were very close to what SP said I'd used).1 -
No, I won't pay by direct debit as SP have estimated my annual usage to be over £10,000 . Which is beyond insane. I was forced upon SP when my previous provider folded. In the 9 months I have been with SP I have so far spent approx £1,500, Jan to Sep.Alnat1 said:Your bill hasn't increased, I assume you mean SP are going to increase your DD?
Basically Scottish power have calculated my September bill using the new price per KWH for the October price rise. I have tried to contact through Twitter, phone, live chat. It seems they are unable to cope. Now the app has stopped working and a message appears saying due to a fault we are unable to show customers their energy usage. It stinks of a stitch up and I can't be alone .
I have worked out that my actual bill, using the current price should be £159.00 for September, however the app has worked it out at £249. When I look at unit price it is stating the new October 1st price.
SP back in March would not listen to me when wanting a monthly direct debit of £858.00. Despite having a small credit, thus I had to cancel my direct debit and move to paying monthly which is more expensive.
SP are clearly inept and do not listen or care. In fact I have just received a text message reminding me to pay the outstanding balance for the September reading.0 -
Don't jump to scam and stitch up. Why do people always do this? With all eyes on the energy industry at the moment, posters still think that suppliers are trying to be nefarious?
If I remember correctly, SP updated the tariffs shown it the app and on new quotes to the October rates several days ago with a note saying that "rates displayed are those that will be applied from 1 Oct". That confused a lot of people at the time, especially as it was sometimes the old October cap rates not the EPG rates. That would explain the rates being shown to you in the app.
It's plausible that there has been a mistake somewhere that's led to the new rates being applied at the wrong time. It's also plausible that this is a display error and the actual billing system in the background did it right but the number you are being shown is wrong.
It's much less plausible that they are deliberately applying the wrong numbers and just hoping that nobody will notice.0
