Deemed Economy 7

Hi I’m on an Economy 7 energy tariff  for gas and electric through edf. I don’t have electric heaters through out the house, I have gas central heating and the normal house hold appliances. Should I be changing my tariff. If so what’s best right now. Many thanks Ricky

  • Welcome to the forum!

If you don't use more than 20% or so at night, you are probably better off on a single rate tariff.  If you know exactly how much you use in the day and in the night (over a whole year is best) then we can do some maths and work out it that is true or not.

The best you will get right now is the Standard Variable Tariff (you are on the E7 version of this now).  The single rate version is also basically the same cost at every supplier, so not much point moving.

Will EDF totalise the readings off a dual rate meter though? I can never remember who will. If not, you'll need a meter change, unless you already have a smart meter
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Usually, yes, but there was someone here who recently said that they wouldn't.  Seems hit-and-miss like everything else at the moment.

No they won't. I'm having this battle with them at the moment. I seriously regret moving to them a month ago, when I was told I could go onto single rate after 28 days, but now they are telling me I have to have a smart meter first and I've no idea how long that will take.

That's the thread I was thinking about  - good to have it confirmed by the relevant person.

@rick_holmes I think I may be getting somewhere with EDF, I complained via Facebook and have been told by somebody from EDF called Tom,that they CAN give me a totaliser tariff while I'm waiting for a smart meter to be installed, and that this tariff can be backdated.  I've got to go via their chat system to request it, which I'm yet to start, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
