I ve never paid a lower direct debit: what energy crisis ? Octopus lowered it.

Octopus have just lowered my normal £100 a month direct debit which I know covers my annual usage at the EPG rates  to only £33 a month .
Octopus have already applied the £67 a month Government grant and taken it off

My friend who has a lower annual usage is overjoyed at now paying only £23 a month through the winter .
This has nt stopped me making big efforts to keep my usage right down and making Nov 1 st a target to first switch my central heating on.

The government are paying the other £67 in, so the amount going into your Octopus pot to pay the bills hasn't changed.

Hope it's not too cold at the end of October!

Why set a date when it's something temperature should decide?

My heating came on yesterday morning because the temperature in the house dropped below 15c, and it was a good idea because it didn't work properly! Hopefully fixed now though for the next cold spell.

Because A , the gas price is too expensive at 10.5 p a kwh and B. I m a competitive animal and others on here are saying November or December is a target.

Even though my DD is low at the moment if I do what I have done in the past my annual usage will climb to 12000 gas kwh s not the 8000 kwh s I managed last year. Big boiler size in a large bungalow eats gas kwh s

The temp  in South Yorks doe s nt hit the extreme sub zero lows of Jan/Feb/Mar so if I can manage ok to Nov and beyond I will be ok to turn up the wick for three months at least .
The extra £300 OAP s are getting will be paid directly into my gas account which is in credit of £300 now so my gas central heating should be ok until April with little rise in the £33 a month. I m guessing it will rise to around £60 ish to account for the rise to 10.5 p a kwh
    .
I have only just switched to Octopus and must admit  to being very impressed with how its run  but I  will manage my account properly myself and won t rely on them to nanny me .
  • I think it is going to be a shock to many when the additional financial support isn't available for the 2023-24 winter.

Remember that you will still be paying off that £67 per month discount for years in higher general taxation. It's not really a grant, it's a long term loan.

I have to admit our heating has now been in use 3 days in a row (only briefly) as it has been below 17 in the house and OH feels the cold.
Due to solar panels generating a credit in our account and government rebate, Octopus have advised that we are on a payment holiday for the next 6 months.

Our heating has only been on to test that it's working ok before we actually do need it.

I'm starting to layer up in the evenings already though so not sure I can cope until Nov. I'm South Yorks. too but I'm nesh.

I'm also on an Octopus DD holiday due to this summer's solar credit.
