Meter readings confusion
I wonder if Martin can implore the BBC to get their facts right and clear up the confusion with submitting meter readings to the energy companies when the price cap changes on 1 October. On two recent programs- The One Show and Morning Live- the presenters tell everyone to submit meter readings on or around 1 October. This is not necessary if you have a working smart meter and in fact I have had an email from EDF confirming this. I can imagine the phone lines to energy companies being unnecessarily clogged up because of this.

You need to ensure that your smart meter is working properly and that your energy company is actually using the data from it for your billing to be certain that you don't need to do it yourself.
There are many thousands of people who have smart meters but who are still getting estimated bills because the energy company isn't getting or using the info. If you want to be certain, read the meter and send it in on 30th Sept or 1st Oct to avoid getting guessimated bills and possibly ending up paying more than you need.
Entirely up to you but, even though I've got a smart meter, I shall still submit a reading on 1st - just in case.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
