Parents better off sticking to EDF's Fix Total Service Jul24v6?

My elderly parents were persuaded to go onto a fixed deal the back of end of July and were confused that EDF hadn't contacted them regarding if they were switching it or not. When I've looked into their rate charges its a close run thing whether they'd pay less or not. Only the standing charge for electricity is 2p more than the October variable.

Electricity unit rate: 32.24p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 48.91p per day

Gas unit rate: 10.200p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 27.22p per day

A lot of Ifs and buts to me.

have you got the right figures for their region and method of payment (the cap varies).

    2p is £7 per year

can you create a gmail address for your parents and create an account?
I did this for my dad and it doesn’t stop him getting paper comms but I can monitor on line,
then you’d be able to see their tarriff.

I think my dads fix is slightly cheaper but going to check again.

update: on the fix you mention my SC is 51.62p vs standard variable 52.86p so less that 1p cheaper.

id check you have the right region and payment method for the rates and get them online to see what they have.
the July deal was a good deal at the time, but now it’s a moot point.

The advantage of sticking is that they know what their prices will be until July 2024.

We don't know for sure that the government support will last especially in the event of another change.

Depending upon the exact rates for their region & their usage savings from slightly smaller unit rate charges may easily pay for an extra 2p/day standing charge.
  • That looks cheap - could be why nobody has asked them if they want to switch off it.

On the typical, it gives an annual cost of £2425. That's below the EPG in every region.

There is not one single capped standing charge, it varies between regions from 33.16p to 52.6p.

Stick with the tariff, its slightly below on electric even for the best regions, the gas is very close, and its contractual, whilst the EPG is just a political promise which isnt anywhere near as sound as a contract.
