Demand letter from ICO

I've received a letter from "ICO" who say they "have a duty to collect the data protection fee" and it's labelled "Action required by 28 October 2022".
They say they've "already written twice", but I don't believe that's true.
They also say "we usually name the organisations we fine on our website".
My question is, are they legit?

The ICO is legitimate as its the UK regulator on data protection laws.
If the letter you have is legitimate is a separate question however almost all businesses do need to have a conversation with the ICO and most will need to register with them for a fee. The fact you dont know the ICO exists suggests you havent done the registration or even considered if you need to or are exempt.1 -

Ignore them. They send threatening letters but nothing else they can do

You need to inform ICO the reason/s why you are exempt. This should avoid future reminder letters.
