Best short term place to put funds from a house sale

My mum is just about to sell her house in England (contracts exchanged and should complete in a couple of weeks). She'll be moving in with us in Scotland and plans to purchase another house sometime next year. The plan was to break the chain, spend time in Scotland explorer areas etc before committing to a property up here. Looking at the news, she may have gotten lucky to sell when she did and may end up buying after the prices start to drop - time will tell.
Anyway, where would you recommend she place the proceeds from the sale (~£200k) in the meantime?
I heard somewhere that the £80k bank protection scheme is increased to cover property sale proceeds for 6 months - is this true?
Where else might be good to put her funds so she can earn some interest to help counter the current high inflation, but will be easily accessible for when she finds a new property?
Thanks!
