Being overdrawn cutoff time

Why do banks have different times in the day where if you fund a overdrawn account that day you don’t pay any charges? Halifax gives you till midnight, but I see with Santander it’s 8pm. And I am sure with Tesco is was 5pm.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'd hazard a guess it depends on the timings of their overnight batch processing on the IT systems.

Because they are separate entities and each has it's own policies and procedures. It is unlikely that they would be the same.0
