SO Energy direct debit email errors

I've just had the long awaited email from SO Energy with the Direct Debit review for my gas only energy account with them.
They tell me that they have applied the £66 discount and that the amount will be:- exactly the same as before!
Then they sent me a duplicate email for good measure.
I'm pretty sure that the £66 discount, as part of the Government's £400 initiative, only applies to electricity accounts or dual fuel accounts
and I don't get my electricity from SO so that's weird, and then the lack of change in amount - broken algorithm?
I notice their 'phone lines are closed too, due to "technical difficulties"
stinker.

Sounds like it's working to plan to me - albeit a slightly "clunky" and unclear way of doing it. Their system presumably sends letters to everyone - as you don't get the £400 from them you are shown as no change to your DD amount. Presumably if you were getting electric from them it would have shown a £67 (£66) reduction on the amount they would have been taking over the next few months. I got a similar missive from EDF - it would have been better had they made rather clearer it was a default email sent to all customers so as to avoid confusion.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Well yes I see where you are coming from, but the gas unit rate is rising from 7.32p to 10.3p/kWh from Oct 1st - one would think that would cause the direct debit amount to be tweaked a bit, despite the credit I have built up with them.
They are leaving it rather late to sort these problems out, aren't they? I guess it will have to wait for the November payment before things are straightened out.

Personally I've already increased the amount of my DD with EDF several months ago as I knew there would be increased in October. If you feel your current payments won't match what you will need to be paying I'd so the same if I were you! Never any harm in being proactive - and it's definitely better than ending up in debt and having to pay catch up later if you have the means to do it.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
