    Hi @[Deleted User]

I dont have a battery or solar but the usage for my flat is showing on the total act export not the import. I think this is the reason Eon isnt receiving the correct usage figures and my ihd isnt logging the usage.

When I moved in the total act import was 00000.3 and it still reads the same 3 months later, however the day I moved in I took a picture of all the readings as I wasnt sure at the time which reading I needed. The total act export reading was 00314 on the day I moved in and when I gave Eon the readings the other day it was 00914 and as you can see in the pics it is now 00947. I was billed for just over 500kwh and paid £200.
I'm happy that its paid but the meter isnt reading correctly and not able to show the usage on my ihd or send reading to my supplier automatically as is usually the case.

I just got home from work and checked in the cupboard. There are only 15 meters and above each meter there is a white box containing the main fuse to the flats but cant see a hub or any thing else in there.

There is 15 meters in the cupboard and only 3 flats occupied at the moment so I thought I would have a look at the empty flats meters.all but 2 of the flats have readings on the import as normal and the other 2 are showing the same as mine on the total act export, it doesnt make sense.

I can take the export readings every month but I though the whole point of having a smart meter was to make it easier. And the biggest thing for me is the ihd especially with winter coming up. The other thing is my meter is right at the back and low down in the stairs cupboard so it's not easy getting the readings. The knees arent as good as they used to be 😆

Ive attached the other pictures of the readings that I just took.

Sorry for the long post and all the pics.

    Thank you

I confess that I have absolutely no idea why your imported energy is being recorded as export. Your supplier will not be able to see this data as it requires a second MPAN from your DNO. This is all part of the security built into smart meters. Logically, it shouldn’t be a wiring fault as the same meter tails are used for import and export. It is only the direction of electricity flow that changes. That said, in a room full of meters there may be something amiss with the wiring which only a qualified electrician can give an opinion on.

Edit: I may be wrong. Further research suggests that there is a possibility that the tails to the meter have been reversed during the smart meter installation. Call your DNO and apprise them of the fact that imported electricity is being recorded as export. They should be able to advise if this is a possibility. They may also agree to fix the problem. Explaining it to the supplier might be more difficult.

I was wondering exactly this. It sounds to me as though the meter has been installed backwards.
samps1973 thanks for all the photos buy sadly none of them show the detail I was looking for. At the bottom of the meter there are four fat wires. The left-hand pair should connect to the main incoming fuse for your flat, and the right-hand pair should go to your consumer unit.
Which pair is has the main fuse, can you see it in the meter cupboard?

    Thanks for the replies 🙂

I think the tails are in trunking and built into the wall but not 100% sure. Tomorrow evening I will have a better look and try to compare any cable colours etc with the good meters to see any obvious differences between the one that are import and export. I'll update here tomorrow after I've had a look.

Sorry @[Deleted User] you mentioned I should contact the DNO instead of the supplier. I'm not sure what DNO stands for 🤔😆 and also will I have to find out who they are from my supplier.

    Thanks 🙂

Talking this through with CS will be like walking through treacle. Your network operator is responsible for getting electricity to your main fuse. To change the tails, which hopefully is nothing more than a 5 minute job for someone who knows what they are doing, requires the main fuse to be removed; replaced and re-sealed. A DNO engineer
will also have the necessary test kit.

The only other option is to ask your installer to send out a meter installer who might or might not know what to do.
  • I had a look in the cupboard and it's difficult to see where the tails are going. All the tails have markers on from 1-4 and all 15 meters have the same markets on so theres nothing obvious out of place. I think my only option now is to send an email to the distribution network operator and see what they say. I'll update here what happens in case it can help others.

Here is the pic of the tails. The white box on the right at the top is the fuse to my flat.

    Thanks

  • It is interesting that someone has applied a certificate to the meter stating that the polarity has been checked when this could well be the problem.
  • Eon said a few weeks back that it was commisioned back in 2019. It looks like they installed the meter too according to the label. Maybe eon have to sort it out, however, now that they can get some sort of a reading they are happy as they are getting paid now. I'll email both soon and see what they come back with. As someone said in an earlier post, it's not like I can get a private electrician to check it as its eons property I think.
