Reading for the end of month Cap change with BG

Just got an email from BG saying I have until the 14th October to give my September 30th reading which they say they will use. But surely that would encourage people to give a higher reading as they can’t be that sure that is what you have used. Or will they more likely convert it into an average reading? I am not on a smart meter. I still intend to give them the reading on the 30th assuming the website/app doesn’t crash which I expect it will!

They're trying to avoid the situation around the last cap change where all the websites crashed. A few day's usage isn't going to bother them a huge amount so they'll trust the number you put in.
Some suppliers do that in general, let you tell them what date the reading was taken whenever you submit it.
It's easy enough to notice if someone is trying to take advantage in a big way.1
