standing charges on energy bills
Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to the site but I have a question. I'm with Out Fox the Market and only have Electricity as we use oil for central heating. We have never been charged a standing charge. However, since the price cap they are saying as we are electric only they can now charge us 50.05p a day standing charge, which immediately adds £15 a month. We are high users so already get hammered for price per Kw when the other companies were charging 27 - 29p per Kw we are paying 33.78p pKw. Just wondering if Martin or anyone else could enlighten me as to the moral and legal reasons for this. We are pensioners and seem to be getting stung from every angle.

OFTM were playing fast and loose with the price cap rules. With no standing charge they were able to charge a higher unit rate which still fell in line with the 2900 kWh price cap but was actually a bad deal for high users compared to having a standing charge. They have now brought in a standing charge due to the way they will be recompensed for the price guarantee rates. With a standing charge they will have to reduce the unit rate so should be better for you..

That's life and OFTM have now been forced to move into line with other suppliers.
SC of around 50p per day and 34p per kWh is the new normal.0 -
