Over Charge? Help?

Afternoon guys.

I am really confused by all this gas and electric prices and I am not sure if i am paying too much, my balance is £504.00 in debit as a bit of an issue when I moved house but I am currently paying £435.00 on direct debit with Scottish Power but what I do not understand it that when i check my smart metre I am only using about £5-6 a day and even on the app I am not using away near the direct debit price for gas and electric.  what do i do?  I have attached screenshots of my usage, any help would be appreciated

  • You used £150 or so per month in summer.  This could easily equate to £600 or more per month in winter.

To pay back £500 of debt, and to cover the likely high bills in winter, £400 DD doesn't sound bad.

You haven't given your usage in figures.  The graphs don't give the information we need and its unknown whether those are real meter readings or estimates.

Your monthly payment of £435pm would suggest you need summer credit of around £1200-£1600.   You have no summer credit and you are in arrears. So, some of your payments is down to clearing those arrears.    Some of it could be because of estimated readings rather than actual.

Knowing a years worth of actual use would be helpful.

  • Basing anything on the energy usage in August is a recipe for miscalculation. Look at a statement from about 12 months ago and if it has ACTUAL meter readings deduct these readings from what is showing on your meters today. This will give you a pretty good idea of your annual usage. You then apply this to your tariff from 1 October to work out an annual cost; add/subtract any debit/credit balance and divide by 12. This will give you a rough monthly cost.

Bear in mind, we had a mild Winter earlier this year so usage going forward may be higher than the last 12 months.
