Bank verses British gas
British Gas said I am not a customer of theirs as I was given to them when my old company collapsed My bank has confirmed that my direct debit is with British Gas! But British gas has denied this. FINALLY I have decided to stop the direct debit. I Have rang them 3 times to explain this and the fact my energy provider online says British Gas. WHAT CAN I do now?

I would suggest you raise this as a formal complaint with British Gas. Contact them via online chat and tell them politely but calmly you are not satisfied with the way they are dealing this and you wish to raise a formal complaint. Whatever they say, insist that you want this to be raised as a formal complaint, and be specific about what you want to achieve - i.e. account set up, bills receieved etc. If you insist on raising this formally it will kick off a different process in BG and likely they will just sort it. Chances are that when you've spoken to them, you've been speaking to an agent that is just following a script - i.e. doing their job as they have been told to. You need to get this escalated so that you're communicating with the next level up. If you do this via online chat you can keep a copy of the exchanges so that if BG don't resolve this you have the info you need for raising it with Ofgem. Having said that, because the DD has been set up it's obvious that there's something wrong at the BG end and the chances are when they look at it properly they'll sort it fairly quickly.
