Hi all, I wandered if anyone could help/advise please on the subject of standing charges on an empty property, I’m being charged 3.00 per day for standing charges by Opus Energy, can this be correct, seems very expensive

This is either a business, or a situation where Opus, who are a business supplier, are erroneously supplying a domestic location, which is it ?
If it is an out of contract business supply then the charge is probably correct.
  • Hi it is a small commercial property, previously a beauty salon, been empty for over 1 year

    Sounds about right then unfortunately.
  • Can I change supplier even though it’s empty and try to find a cheaper standing charge from another supplier?

If you are out of contract then yes, just be very careful when talking to suppliers or brokers as this is a business tariff and you can agree to a contract verbally with no cooling-off period, so don't let yourself be talked into agreeing anything without getting all the details first...
  • Thanks for the advice

If there's no prospect of letting it in the forseeable future, then you might consider having the supply disconnected? Otherwise it's £1k pa ad infinitum.
