Help to save scheme

I’ve recently just had my Government backed Help to Save account closed as I’d had my money in NS & I for the requisite number of years and have duly received my bonus payment.
However, my account was closed on 6th September but before I had chance to cancel, a direct debit went out of my account on 8th September.
I can’t access my NS &I account as it doesn’t exist anymore and I never kept a record of the account number…I did it through the government website if I wanted to access it.
So it appears £50.00 has gone AWOL…any one out there had this experience?
I’ve tried contacting NS & I on the phone but with no luck…one person even told me she had never even heard of the Government Help to Save Scheme…I’ve tried 4 times today and no one is even answering the phone now….

Direct debit mandate / guarantee.
Call your bank and explain what’s going on.
Then the money will be back in your account.

Are you sure the Help to Save is related to NS&I? I always accessed mine through the government site and can see still my account even though my final payment was made to me in June of this year. Also, are you sure you weren't paying by standing order? Try logging in via the government website, maybe your money will show there and you'll be able to withdraw it. https://account.help-to-save.tax.service.gov.uk/nonameqt said:I’ve recently just had my Government backed Help to Save account closed as I’d had my money in NS & I for the requisite number of years and have duly received my bonus payment.

I had this, my money bounced back to my current account as it was closed at the end of the four years.
