Credit Card for non-UK residents

Hi Im resident in Gibraltar and Capital One have informed me that they will close all Gibraltar based credit card accounts from November. Any ideas for credit card facilities for non-UK residents, not much locally and need CC for car hire when visiting UK

As I understand it you will need to do what any other visitor to the UK does which is have a card from your own bank in Gibraltar and use that for when you are visiting the UK.

Basically CapOne is doing what most/all the UK banks are doing following the rules out of Brexit.  You can't provide banking in the UK and service an area outside the UK unless you have headquarters/offices/something in that other country.

British banks cannot offer services to a lot of EU countries any more. Credit cards, loans, savings accounts are all under the services heading. A lot are still ok with current accounts with no overdraft if it is already open, but not for all countries. They also seem to be cutting back on non resident credit generally as it is harder to persue a bad debt abroad - not saying you personally would not pay!
You may be able to get a card through somewhere like Wise, or Revolute, otherwise can you try a Spanish provider if any of them cover Gibraltar?

Home improvement secured loans 30,130/41,000 and 23,156/28,000 End 2027 and 2029
    Mortgage 64,513/100,000 End Nov 2035
2022 all rolling into new mortgage + extra to finish house. 125,000 End 2036
  • Can't you get a credit card issued in your jurisdiction?

This might not be linked to Brexit
Gibraltar left the EU when UK left the EU.
