As a result of an investment maturing I have about £20K available for holding in cash/ investing in equities (and into what?) or into fixed rate savings.
I would welcome views on this pleasant query

My view is that you need to provide way more information if you want any meaningful suggestions - what other savings and investments do you have, when are you likely to need the money, what's your attitude to risk, is your pension maximised, etc, etc?TUVOK said:As a result of an investment maturing I have about £20K available for holding in cash/ investing in equities (and into what?) or into fixed rate savings.

The usual questions: when are you likely to need the money, what if any debts do you have and what do they cost you, what is your age, what are your pension provisions, what if any commitments do you have to any dependents , what is your tax rate, what risk would you accept?1

Not likely to need the money, no debts, age is mid 70's, 2 pensions which take care of all out goings, dependents taken care of, lower tax rate, fairly low risk preferred.0

You may want to consider Capital Preservation Trusts such as Capital Gearing Trust, Personal Assets Trust, RIT Capital Partners and Ruffer Investment Company.

Thank you, but I hold positions in all of those four companies.george4064 said:You may want to consider Capital Preservation Trusts such as Capital Gearing Trust, Personal Assets Trust, RIT Capital Partners and Ruffer Investment Company.0 -
Which is why I suggested that you outline what investments you already hold, rather than expecting people to guess, not that there's anything inherently wrong with adding to existing positions....TUVOK said:

OK, I hold equities, some growth, some value, some wealth preservation, also hold a few REIT's and large holdings in IT's, also hold cash and N.S.&I products.0

I can't see any reason not to spread this £20k across your existing holdings, if you are happy with them.

Just spread the £20k across your existing holdings then, perhaps use this as an opportunity to rebalance a bit by adding to assets that have fallen in recent times.TUVOK said:OK, I hold equities, some growth, some value, some wealth preservation, also hold a few REIT's and large holdings in IT's, also hold cash and N.S.&I products."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett
