How long a wait for a smart meter install from EDF.

I'm desperately trying to get off Economy 7 as we have old legacy meters from the previous house owner. I've moved to EDF who said they would give me a single rate tarriff after 28 days. They are now saying they can only do this if I have a smart meter, which doesn't bother me much, but how long am I going to have to wait for this to be installed?

I have actually been mis-sold as they said they could do a single rate off a dual rate meter, but that's not what the Indian call centre are saying.

If you have old E7 meter they can put you on a totaliser tariff which is the single rate prices but you still have to give the 2 reads

They could, but they won't. I'm quite happy to give two reads, not a problem at all, they are saying the only way to get a single rate is to have a smart meter, which is not what they told me when I moved to them.  I'm facing the prospect next week of paying 47p for day and 12p for night, roughly. We barely use 20% overnight even when running the washing machine and dishwasher overnight.

Previously I was with Outfox on a single rate fixed tarrif but they stuck me back onto E7 when the fix ended.

Why won’t they fit a smart meter?

From what I've read, there's a shortage of meters or fitters or something.

So it’s not that they won’t fit a meter, it’s just that they can’t at the moment? Should still be able to put you on a totaliser.

Yes they should be able to. But I can't get them to!

Took EDF about 2 months for me but that was with 2 no-show appointments first.  However the installer left saying my IHD would need to be sorted, out later as it wouldn't connect and nothing has happened on that despite my pushing, I suspect if I had left it nothing would ever happen.
    I think....

@michaels How long ago was it that you applied to have a smart meter?
