Moving home

Hi there,
I am moving into a new home that is currently supplied by Utilities Wharehouse. My current supplier, Shell Energy, have said that I need to stick with UW as I cannot transfer my account on a Flexible tariff, and they are not taking on new accounts at the moment? I have tried contacting UW and after being on hold for 1.5hrs they tried to get me to transfer all my bills to them. Having looked on their website I can see that they rate quite highly so I was looking for advice from anyone who is with them please?

  • There are numerous threads about UW on this forum. You will need to do your own research. Personally, I don’t like bundled services as it limits my ability to take up offers such as 1p/month for my mobile.

Move in: provide UW with your details and meter readings and you are then free to switch. Best of luck with your move.
  • I'd strongly advise you to get away from UW as fast as you reasonably can - I was with them for a while for electricity and have ended up having to take them to the ombudsman service over various failings. As a general rule the only people you will find being massively enthusiastic about them are those who benefit from being so because they are part of the MLM system and so benefit from persuading others to become victims...sorry, customers.

You don't 'transfer your bills'. You close your existing Shell Energy account on the day you move out and give final readings. At the new property, you will be in a deemed contract with UW,
You give opening reads and open a new account with UW. They will certainly try to persuade you to go onto a bundled service with phone/broadband, mobile, boiler insurance etc. Just decline and ask to be put on SVT under the EPG: that is the cheapest option.
You don't need to do anything until you are actually in occupation and able to supply opening reads.
I'd be very surprised if all the ratings on their own website weren't 5 star ones...
