Stamp Duty - First Time Buyer Refund

I think we’ve some crossed wires here.If you buy a house that will be your main residence before selling the house you live in, you’ll pay stamp duty as you’ll own 2 houses, but will be refunded when you sell the first house within a certain timeframe (6 months?). Could this be what you’re thinking of?Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.0

I think you've crossed your own wires here. The OP wants to know if they can get a refund on the SDLT they paid on their first home on 16th of September before the gov announced the SDLT holiday.YoungBlueEyes said:I think we’ve some crossed wires here.If you buy a house that will be your main residence before selling the house you live in, you’ll pay stamp duty as you’ll own 2 houses, but will be refunded when you sell the first house within a certain timeframe (6 months?). The answer as others say is no, the date for eligibility was the 23rd. It sucks as its only 5 days but there needs to be a line drawn somewhere.4 -

The title of the thread would be an indication that it could be difficult for the OP to be replacing their main residence....YoungBlueEyes said:I think we’ve some crossed wires here.If you buy a house that will be your main residence before selling the house you live in, you’ll pay stamp duty as you’ll own 2 houses, but will be refunded when you sell the first house within a certain timeframe (6 months?). Lol grumio, I appreciate that...
I was gently trying to suggest that perhaps OP had assumed they'd get a refund because their friend had, when the friend had replaced their main residence so the situations were slightly different to each other.
I'll get me coat.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.0
