Charging two direct debits
Can your energy supplier charge you two direct debits on two seperate dates (never had this before)? I’m on variable since July and dual fuel. One on 1st and one on 5th oct. July aug September I was using 2/3 £40 electric 1/3 gas £20 but they estimated price they think my monthly bills from October will be £109 which is nearly double? I live in well insulated bungalow and energy efficient and hardly use central heating. They have taken the £67 energy rebate monthly off for October the £109 which leaves £42 on the 5th but they’re wanting to charge extra £17 on 1st oct. I’m hardly home 🙈 currently I’m in credit on my account. Do I need to worry as I will be in credit let’s say 6 months time. Every month I provide meter readings and I have a metre monitor that tells me I’m spending less than £1 a day on electric. I understand the bill is not a lot compared to everyone else but times are hard for everyone with everything going up 😢

Is one DD for electricity and the other for gas?0

Two DD payments a month are unusual but what matters is the total amount that you pay. You appear to be putting £1308 a year into your account which is slightly over 50% of the annual typical user cost.
Standing charges alone could be 74p/day or £270 per year leaving £1038 to pay for the energy that you use at an average of 10.3p/kWh for gas and 34p/kWh for electricity under the Government Cap.
Before anyone can actually answer your question, how much actual energy do you use per year for gas and electricity in kWh not £s?
Finally, the amount shown on your energy monitor is only accurate if the correct tariff information has been sent to your meters. I assume that you have smart meters?

I was always billed via 2 DD by SSE 1 gas 1 elec. They came out on the same day (quarterly DD though may make a difference).
Recently switched and it's the first time I've had a monthly DD that comes out as 1 payment

Yes I have smart metre only for electric. Gas always been a lot lower for me. But I provide readings monthly. I checked yesterday and the tariff information option has been removed off my monitor.
No direct debit I pay monthly covers both.Current charges on my account/tariff are -Electric is 28.45 p/kWh 43.39 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)Gas 7.48 p/kWh 27.22 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)From my email in May 2022 (before I renewed) the energy provider estimates I use yearly
Gas 6,508 kWh
Electric 1,210 kWh
Thanks

Is this with E.ON Next? They have an odd thing going on with their system at the moment where some people see one DD for October and some see two.
We’re not sure why yet, but think it could be something to do with the system showing changes for EPG and rebate independently and confusing itself.
Does it actually say “we will take this on 1 Oct and then 5 Oct” or does it say something more like “your DD will change to X on 1 Oct and to Y on 5 Oct”?0 -
Working it out in my head that £109 looks about right for your usage. If anything it may be a few £'s low.

I guess it looks something like this (the thread we were discussing something similar on):
